Brief bio

Diego Echegoyen is an Argentine performance maker based in Brussels who works, researches and activates in projects merging theatre, expanded choreography, field recording, site-specific and street performance. His artistic practice reshapes in relation to these fields of experimentation according the type of project.

Echegoyen has shown his work in Argentina, Chile, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands and Denmark.

He holds a Post-Master in artistic research from the Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies program (a.pass, Brussels), and a BFA from the Institute Superieur des Arts et des Choregraphies (ISAC) at the Academie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles.

His performative work revolves around how we perceive reality and whether it is possible to modify what we perceive by modifying its perceptual context. Countless topics unfold from there, connecting historical, personal and collective events.

He is interested in a speculative approach to the crisis of political representation in contemporary Western democracies in relation to the representation crisis in the drift from conventional forms of theatre to post-dramatic theatre, contemporary theatre, visual arts, performance and sound art.

These interests are present in his last individual and collective works, such as What Shines Through Two Different Things; To Be Someone Implies to Be Somewhere; All roads lead to Molenbeek; Abogados Manteros (Lawyers Manteros); ¿Qué pretende Usted de mi? (What do you want from me?); Escena Politica Transversal Congress; Acciones Iceberg (Iceberg Actions); Dirección de Ecosistemas Culturales (Governmental Direction of Cultural Ecosystems); Deseos CTBA 2016 (Wishes 2016 for the Buenos Aires Theatrical Complex); Informe SM (SM Report).

Through his works, he challenges the regulations to make use of public space and how we perceive and understand it by dislocation perception and sense of reality.

For his new piece, he follows the trace of his last work by exploring crossroads between sound-art, expanded choreography, performance, and visual arts to rise questions about collectiveness and participation.

He is co-founder of the Argentine artist-activist collective Escena Política, with whom he has worked since 2013 at the crossroads of performing arts and activism.

In 2010, he co-founded the Argentine EL CUARTO Theatre Company, who with he has worked as an actor, dancer, performer and actors’ coach ever since.
